Making a Resume for Free Online

Creating a resume is essential when searching for a job, but many people are reluctant to pay for it—and that’s completely understandable.

In this article, we’ll show you how to build a professional-quality resume for free on uhired—just as good as one created with pay-for-download services.

The first step in your journey is signing up and creating your profile. It’s quick and easy! Simply provide some basic information, such as your name, date of birth, desired position, and location. You also have the option to add a photo and include your contact information, both of which can be hidden in your privacy settings.

Complete your profile

The next step is completing your profile. On uhired, your profile serves as your resume—only much more flexible. You can easily update or add new information at any time. Once your profile is complete, a traditional PDF resume will be automatically generated, including all the details from your profile.

Completing your profile takes just 6 quick steps. Only a few steps are mandatory, including your desired position, hard skills, and soft skills.

In the first step, you’ll provide more details about the job you’re looking for, such as your desired income, type of employment, and preferred work format.

Skills are categorized into hard and soft skills. For both categories, you’ll find free, tailored tips based on your desired position to help ensure you don’t overlook anything important.

Work experience

If you’re just starting your career and don’t have any experience yet, you can skip this step. However, we recommend filling out this section. Include volunteer work, freelance or university projects—anything relevant to the position you’re applying for.

You can add as many workplaces as needed. uhired will automatically organize them in reverse-chronological order, which is the standard format for resumes.

Each workplace ‘card’ includes several fields: company name, position, work period, and work details. While the details are optional, it’s highly recommended to complete them to showcase your experience and highlight your key achievements. Free tips are also available to help you craft a compelling work description.

You can also add hard skills acquired during a specific work period. Choose from the list you created earlier in the Skills section, or add new ones if you recall something later. Any new skills will be automatically added to your profile.

Education

If you don’t have a degree, you can skip this step. However, we recommend listing at least one stage of your education to avoid potential uncomfortable questions later during interviews.

In the education section, include the school name, your major or field of study, and the study period. You can also add details such as your GPA, student projects, or any awards related to this educational experience. As with the work experience section, you can select relevant hard skills and access free, helpful tips.

About you

This section serves as your professional summary and will appear at the top of your profile, unless you choose to hide it in the privacy settings.

As the name suggests, your summary should highlight the most important details about you as a professional in a concise text, usually two to four sentences. You’ll also find free, useful tips to help you write a compelling professional summary.

Personal details

This section consists of five optional steps, where you can:

  • Pre-write answers to typical interview questions and add them to your profile;
  • Add achievements (publications, awards, certifications) and references if needed;
  • Complete the equal employment form;
  • Select hashtags from the list or add your own to share your values and interests.

From all these steps, only your achievements and references will be included in your resume. The rest of the information is for personal use or to enhance your profile if you choose to share it, providing more detail than a standard resume typically would.

PDF resume

Once you complete your profile, you can adjust your privacy settings to conceal certain information in it. In your PDF resume, you can independently hide specific sections, workplaces, or educational entries as needed.
